Czech Republic

I arrived back from the Czech Republic last thursday where i did some stocking up on things for the future.  Very impressed by the book shop on Vaclavske Namesti in Prague.  Supposedly the biggest in Central Europe it certainly has lots of really good books and I could easily have spent several hundred pounds.  One particular book of paintings by a Czech artist called Michael Rittstein caught my eye.  I found a few examples on the web:

I also made it back to the map shop near the Prague’s main station, to .  The shop assistant starting looking nervous when I was pulling out lots of maps, insisting that she put them back.  When I told her I was going to buy all the ones I had pulled out she looked a little surprised.  I came away with Ethiopia, Eritrea, Congo (Democratic Republic of) and Nepal.  The map shop in London in a similar place to get good maps.

I just got back from the Czech Republic as well. I stumbled upon an exhibition of Michael Rittstein paintings in Hluboka Nad Vltavou down south and my jaw dropped. Such beutiful, imaginative, lively yet often disturbing works on huge canvases!

I wanted to purchase fairly large book of his works they had in place but the shop was already closed. Could you please reply (by email) with the details of the book you got so I can search it online?

I didn’t buy the book as it was too big to fit in the bag I had to take on the flight. I’ve had a quick look onm the internet but can’t unfotunately remember the name of the book, so in this instance I may not be much help – sorry. If I do dig it up I will let you know.
